Congratulations to AM&E Alumn, Jinny Yu, whose solo show AT ONCE opens at the Art Gallery of Ontario on June 22nd.
AM&E MBA and MFA (2002) alumn, Jinny Yu, makes her AGO debut with an exhibition of new works. Born in Korea and now based in Ottawa and Berlin, Jinny, who teaches at the University of Ottawa, spends her time between Ottawa and Berlin.
The 2016 AM&E newsletter featured Jinny’s Venice Biennale exhibition Don’t They Ever Stop Migrating? In the AGO exhibition, in a departure from her usual practice of exclusively using black paint, Yu employs vivid colours, transparency and distorted forms to continue questioning what it means to be a guest and a host.
In tandem with the exhibition, Goose Lane Editions will publish a bilingual 120-page monographic catalogue featuring essays by Patrick Flores, Ming Tiampo and Georgiana Uhlyarik, and a foreword by Marie-Eve Beaupré. The launch will take place in September 2024 at the AGO in Toronto and in summer 2025 at the Guido Molinari Foundation in Montreal.
