The Politics of Curiosity: Alternatives to the Attention Economy

"The Politics of Curiosity: Alternatives to the Attention Economy," edited by Enrico Campo and Yves Citton, delves into the emerging field of attentional studies to explore and propose alternatives to the prevailing attention economy.

By investigating the mental infrastructures that shape our perceptions and understandings, the book advocates for an emancipatory politics of curiosity, aiming to provide pathways beyond the commodification of attention in contemporary society.

This interdisciplinary volume brings together leading scholars to examine the intricate relationships between attention, distraction, and curiosity, emphasizing the socio-political and techno-political dimensions of these concepts.

One such scholar is our own Associate Director, Ken Rogers. He contributed the chapter Quick Bites: Short-Form Attention in the Era of Platform Capitalism, which can be accessed here by current students through the York library. For those interested in reading the full text, it is available for purchase here.

Congrats to Ken for this fantastic accomplishment!
